Matt is Moving On!
Updated: Nov 20, 2019
Matt gained confidence and improved his communication skills while at Courtney's House. We are excited to announce that Matt was recently hired by a local grocery store.
Matt was a prep cook intern at Courtney's House for several years. We are very proud to see him move on to another job at a local grocery store.
"When Matt first came to Courtney's House, we helped him learn workplace communication skills," says Erin Lawrence, Courtney's House Program Manager and Job Coach. "He also needed help understanding how to be a member of a team and focus on what to get done in a timely manner."
Erin helped Matt with his resumé, but she did not get him the job. "He applied for the grocery job on his own. I'm very proud and pleased to see his growth in self-confidence that's made it possible for him to transition into another job."

A study by the Institute for Corporate Productivity, or i4cp, found that three-quarters of employers surveyed ranked their employees with IDD as good or very good on work quality, motivation, engagement, integration with co-workers, dependability, and attendance. Many employers reported being initially leery of hiring people with IDD, only to see their concerns dissolve after the employees were on board. (i4cp’s complete report is available as a free download at http://www.ImInToHire.org.)
Matt is a great example of how a person with I/DD can work in the community alongside peers without disabilities.
Empowering those with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities
